There are many ways to design a brochure but it is important
that the theme be consistent throughout the brochure. The theme
consists of three basic elements: font size, font type and colors.
The font type should be readable by people of any age. Some
font sizes are beautiful but can be difficult to read by someone
with impaired vision. The best font types are Times New Roman,
Arial, Comic Sans and Bookman Old Style. These are the most
popular and easiest to read.
The font size should not be too large or small. Most fonts for
headings and subheadings are size 14 (MS Word) and the rest
of the text is typically size 12. A font that is too big makes
your brochure gaudy and as though there was not enough information
to fill the space. A font that is too small will be difficult
to read.
Colors are used to make a brochure look appealing. Choose colors
that are pleasant to the eye. The color format is usually light
over dark, which means the font is light and the background
is dark.
Once the colors have been chosen the next step is to decide
the objective of the brochure. The objective must be clear to
allow the design to fall into place. Following this, the target
market can be chosen. The target market is the people who are
expected to purchase your products or services. The brochure
should be designed based on the preferences of the target market.
The front cover of the brochure is the most important aspect.
The cover should draw attention from the target market, be attractive
and give some visual introduction of the product or service.
Most readers do not read the full contents of the brochure so
the best way to get as much information to the customer is through
the headings. The headings should be clear and concise.
It is important to include illustrations inside the brochure
and contact information on the back.
