Before these cells develop the tissues of the cervix go through a condition called dysplasia in which abnormal cells appears. Later this condition is developed into cancer which grows deeper and spread deeper in the surroundings.

The US cancer society estimated that about 12800 women in US were diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer centers in 2001.
