Payroll Tax

What are payroll taxes?

Payroll taxes are the taxes which are allocated by the government on employers. The payroll tax requires that the employer pay federal and state taxes, on behalf of their employees. Any failure to do so would hold the employer responsible, and not the employees, and the employer is accountable for the penalty of failure in paying payroll taxes.

The capital that the tax subdivision obtained from payroll tax is used by the regime on several activities, carried inside and outside the state. The money obtained from the tax, is used by the country, to bear the everyday expenditure, that the state faces in administration business and official matters.

There are several types of payroll taxes that the employer has to fulfill, and some of these payroll taxes include the following:

Social taxes

The payroll taxes include the social taxes which are imposed on the employees according to the policy of the government and the organization. The employer has to make sure that the social taxes of the employees are paid in a timely manner and in a strategic way. The social taxes of the employees are often deducted from their salaries, and are submitted to the tax department. The tax department maintains complete profile of the organization, its employees and the tax paid by the employer, on behalf of the employee. If the employer fails to pay the payroll tax in due time, the normal procedure is to send a notification to the employer from the tax department, together with a warning letter. If the employer still does not pay the allocated payroll taxes, then he is held accountable, and can face penalty.

Security taxes

The payroll taxes include the security taxes that the employer has to pay on behalf of the employees. In most organizations, the security taxes are paid in accordance with an agreement, that the employee would receive security benefits. The employees would also be liable for the security taxes, which the employer would deduct from their salaries. But the actual tax is filled by the employer and submitted to the tax department. The time frames according to which the security taxes are to be paid, is firmly specified by the tax department.

Medicare taxes

Payroll taxes also abide the employer to pay medical taxes for the employees. Whether the employer is giving the employees medical facilities, or is providing medical insurance to the employees. In both cases, there are certain taxes that are allocated to the medical facilities. The employer is required to fulfill those taxes on behalf of the employees. There are different types of medical taxes for different medical policies being offered to the employee.

Payroll taxes are allocated by the government. The department of finance and taxation has the authority to alter the payroll taxes, according to the shifting trends and economical stability of the country. The sector of taxation and finance has the right to put into practice new taxes and excise, if permitted by the government.
